An X-ray is a safe and painless procedure that’s often used to produce images of the inside of the body.  X-rays are commonly used to check the health of bones and internal organs.

East Surrey Hospital

Services are available both by appointment and walk-in. The X-ray department is open weekdays 9am – 4:30pm.

To make an X-ray appointment call 01737 231 604. Out of hours: There is a 24-hour service at East Surrey Hospital which supports the emergency department.

Crawley Hospital

Crawley Hospital offers a walk-in service. To make an X-ray appointment call 01293 600 300 x3039. Out of hours: The Urgent Treatment Centre operates with plain film imaging support from 9am – 10pm.

Horsham Hospital

X-ray is offered on an appointment system. A walk-in service for chest radiography and urgent cases. To make an X-ray appointment call 01403 227 036.

Caterham Dene Hospital

A community hospital run by First Community Health & Care and offers appointment.  X-ray services are provided here seven days a week for GP X-ray referrals as well as supporting the minor injuries unit based here.

The department is open Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. On Weekends and bank holidays (not including Christmas day) it is open from 10am – 5pm.

Information for GPs

GPs can refer patients direct to the X-ray department.  Results are normally sent back to GPs electronically within four days, although many are sent within 48 hours.

To refer a patient for X-ray, GPs fill out a patient request form and the patient can either book an appointment, or go direct to their nearest hospital and wait to be seen.
