Patients from the Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire (SWSH) Cancer Network with Brain and Central Nervous System (CNS) tumours are managed within the South West London Cancer Network (SWLCN). St George’s Hospital provides specialist surgery on site.

SASH pituitary patients are diagnosed by the Trust’s Consultant Endocrinologist, Dr Sunil Zachariah. Surrey patients requiring specialist surgery for pituitary tumours are referred to Imperial College Health Care NHS Trust (ICHNT). Sussex patients requiring specialist surgery for pituitary tumours are referred to Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, Haywards Heath.

The Trust refers any patients with imaging suggestive of a brain and/or CNS tumour to the neuroscience MDT at St George’s, Tooting for formal diagnosis. Patients from SASH are referred to the clinical investigation unit at Royal Surrey County Hospital for invasive endocrine testing. This service is led by Dr Callum Livingstone, consultant pathologist, with Dr Antony Lopez and Dr Alex Horton, consultant radiologists providing petrosal sinus sampling and adrenal vein sampling.

SWSH Cancer Network Brain and CNS patients have six monthly follow ups, including an MRI scan. Patients may have more frequent follow ups as required for support or medical needs.

Referrals

All GP referral letters, except those referred though the Choose & Book System or Two Week Rule method, should be sent direct to the Outpatient Booking Office, East Surrey Hospital, Canada Avenue, Redhill RH1 5RH. Please do not send these direct to a consultant, medical secretary or any other department.

You can of course make the actual outpatient referral letter out to a specific consultant. The Outpatient Booking Office is responsible for processing all referrals for outpatient appointments which then initiates the patient’s 18 week RTT status.

Outpatient referrals made under the Two Week Rule method should be faxed immediately to 01737 231733.
