Special care dentistry is concerned with the improvement of the oral health of people aged 16 and over who have a physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical, emotional or social impairment or disability or a combination of these factors.

Our service is for patients who are registered with a general medical practitioner in East Surrey.

Our team has additional training and experience working with adults with additional needs.

This includes patients with:
•    Physical disabilities
•    Learning disabilities
•    Autism
•    Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis
•    Complex medical issues which impact their dental care
•    Complex mental health conditions
•    Patients with palliative conditions
•    People who are housebound

We provide comprehensive dental advice and treatment and can provide treatment under sedation or general anaesthesia.
We can offer domiciliary (home visits) care for people who are unable to leave their place of residence in East Surrey.
All services are provided at East Surrey Hospital, which has disabled parking, changing places, facilities, and a lift.
We also have a wheelchair recliner so that patients can be treated in their wheelchairs and facilities to treat bariatric patients.
We offer ongoing dental care for those patients who need it long-term, and others will be referred back to their regular dentist.

Referrals

Dentists must refer patients via online electronic referral systems (Vantage Rego)
GPs, community nurses or care workers can refer patients direct to this department via this form.

Patients who fulfil our criteria will be offered an appointment for an assessment.
