Who we are

We are a dedicated team of 12 experienced Senior Critical Care Nurses and 2 Senior Physiotherapists. All members of our team are specially trained to deliver expert care to patients outside of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring continuous critical care support across the hospital.

What we do

Assessment of acutely ill/deteriorating patients

We provide rapid assessment and management for patients who are deteriorating or at risk of deterioration. Working closely with ward staff and medical teams, our goal is to deliver high-quality care and avoid ICU admissions when possible.

Emergency response

We attend in-hospital emergencies to provide immediate critical care support and assist the medical teams in stabilising patients.

Facilitating transfers

  • To Intensive Care – When a patient requires escalation of care.
  • Within the Hospital – For procedures or monitoring (e.g. CT scans).
  • Between Hospitals – For patients needing specialist care, such as those who are intubated.

Post-ICU follow-Up

We review and support patients following their discharge from ICU, ensuring continuity of care as they transition back to the ward environment.

Training and education

We actively contribute to the education and training of nurses, student nurses, junior doctors and Allied Health Professionals. Our programmes are designed to enhance early recognition of the critically ill and promote high standards of patient care.
