Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust have announced that Andrew Hines will be the new Chief Executive for the Trust when Angela Stevenson retires in August after more than 37 years in the NHS.
Andrew, the current Executive Director for Group Development at Barts Health NHS Trust, will take up the post this Autumn.
Andrew joins SASH with over 30 years’ senior leadership experience in provider and regional roles across London and the South of England. He has held board-level responsibility for a wide portfolio including operations, strategy, digital, and estates and facilities.
He has also held senior leadership roles at a system level, including in London where he was Interim Regional Director for the NHS Trust Development Authority and Regional Chief Operating Officer for NHS Improvement, playing a key role in supporting trust boards to deliver better services for patients through effective leadership.
Over the last seven years he has been Executive Director for Group Development at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England, where he has led the evolution of the group operating model - a key factor in the Trust’s sustained improvement over this period.
As a Group Director he has been responsible for a broad portfolio at Board level including corporate development, digital, performance and partnership working through the North East London acute provider collaborative. He has advised other organisations on the learning from the Barts Health group model and is particularly proud to have contributed to the Trust’s wider role during the Covid pandemic.
Trust Chair, Anita Donley said:
“I am really pleased to be announcing Andrew as the Trust’s next Chief Executive. I know he will bring energy, commitment and dedication to this role, and his experience will be instrumental in leading the Trust forward into the next stage of its journey as an acute provider. I look forward to working with him and welcoming him to SASH later this year.”
Andrew Hines said:
“I’m delighted and proud to be joining SASH as its next Chief Executive. The Trust provides vital services to a growing population across east Surrey and west Sussex. I’m looking forward to working with its fantastic staff and building on relationships with partner organisations.”
