Thayalan qualified from Cardiff Dental Hospital in 2000 and has held various Senior House Officer positions in dentistry in the U.K.

He sought specialisation in Paediatric Dentistry at Royal London Dental Hospital and completed his Specialist Registrar training to be awarded a Membership in Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons, England and entered the specialist list in Paediatric Dentistry in 2008.

In 2010 after further training in Paediatric Dentistry at Eastman Dental Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital he was awarded a Fellowship in Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow.

His areas of specialist interest are management of phobic children, oral surgery, management of dental anomalies, dental trauma and care of medically and physically compromised patients.

He is actively involved in teaching and lecturing both nationally and internationally. He has developed a training post in Paediatric Dentistry at East Surrey Hospital and is actively involved in promoting child dental health locally as well as at national level.
