Dr Claire Mearns has been a consultant anaesthetist at SASH since June 2005. She deals with patients requiring anaesthetic and critical care services. She shares responsibility with her consultant colleagues for patients in the intensive care and high dependency units.
Her specialism is regional anaesthesia for hand and elbow surgery, dental anaesthesia with fibre-optic, as well as caring for critically ill patients.
She attended Birmingham University Medical School and completed her anaesthetic training in the West Midlands and on the South Thames (East) Specialist Registrar Anaesthetic Rotation which is based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
Her interests also include education and training and she has been the college tutor for anaesthetics for the past four years.
