We are now offering video consultations to some patients who have been identified by their doctor or nurse as someone who may be suitable for this type of appointment.
We deliver these virtual consultations in partnership with Acceleraate and Zoom, using secure, NHS‑approved technology.
We recognise that the traditional face to face appointment isn’t always convenient and we know that some people need to come to hospital several times as part of their care. Sometimes it is possible to have a convenient virtual consultation from home or in your workplace rather than coming to hospital. Feedback shows that some people find this more convenient and a better experience.
What to expect from a video consultation
Your video consultation will take place at a pre‑arranged time, just like a face‑to‑face appointment. During the appointment, you will be able to speak to your clinician, ask questions, and discuss your care as you would in person.
Patient feedback shows that many people find video consultations:
- More convenient, particularly if travel to hospital is difficult
- Easier to fit around work, caring responsibilities, or other commitments
- A positive and effective way to speak with their healthcare team
Your clinician will always recommend an in‑person appointment if a physical examination or face‑to‑face discussion is needed.
Technology and security
Video consultations are delivered using Zoom, supported by Accelerate, and meet NHS standards for security, privacy, and data protection.
You can usually join your appointment using:
- A computer or laptop
- A smartphone or tablet
All video consultations follow our Patient Privacy Notice, which explains how we keep your information safe and confidential. Please click here to read our Patient Privacy Notice.
