In October 2014 the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order following its investigation into the private healthcare industry. The order placed requirements on private hospitals to disclose required information in relation to referring clinicians for the benefit of patients. The Trust provides the following services to consultants delivering private work within the hospital facilities:
The cost per hour for Consultants utilising outpatient rooms is £49. The Trust oversees the process of invoicing for these costs alongside other support including hospital support facilities, consulting rooms, theatres, ward stays, diagnostics, pathology and consumables. Costs associated with any elements or procedures are available here.
The majority of consultants practising privately at the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) have their main NHS practice the Trust and are therefore employed by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. As such staff have access to certain employment benefits (NHS discounts, training, stationary, office space etc) these are available to our consultants regardless of private practice. Consultants who wish to practice privately within the Trust complete a declaration of interests form and confirm that appropriate indemnity is in place.
GPs are invited to participate in education and engagement sessions at the Trust as part of our core business and in the interest of partnership working. Hospitality is often provided at the events
The private patient manager oversees the generation of costs and invoices for the hospital facilities. Operational arrangements are supported by local management teams on an ad-hoc basis.
