I qualified from Birmingham University in 1989 and gained MRCP (UK) in 1993 after my medical SHO training programme in the West Midlands. My specialist training in Medical Microbiology and Virology was at Bart’s and The Royal London Hospitals, where I gained an MSc in 1996 and MRCPath in 1999. I took up my post as consultant at SASH in July 1999.
In my time here, I have been Associate Director of Medical Education (Clinical Tutor) 2001 – 2007; Foundation Year 1 Training Programme Director 2004 – 2006; Director for Infection Prevention & Control (DIPC) 2004 – 2010; Lead Clinician for Pathology 2006 – 2008; Clinical Director, then Chief of Service for Clinical Support Services 2008 – present (now Clinical director of Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership), gaining BAMM Advanced Clinical Leader in 2010.
I was also on the Steering Group of the Surrey Pathology Network 2006 – 2010, and am now a member of the Sussex Pathology Network Steering Group/Joint Management Board since 2010.
Clinically, my interests include bone and joint infections, staphylococcal sepsis, E. coli bloodstream infection and outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT).
Managerially, my interests lie particularly in modernizing pathology services.
