The pathology department provides inpatient and outpatient laboratory diagnostics to SASH patients, and a direct access service to 82 GP practices.
SASH serves a catchment area of 535,000, plus the population passing through Gatwick Airport. The pathology service provides a comprehensive, timely, cost effective, clinically-led service, comprising the following laboratories:
- Clinical biochemistry
- Blood transfusion
- Histopathology and mortuary
- Cytology (non-gynae)
- Phlebotomy service (blood collection)
All laboratories (with the exception of microbiology) are based at East Surrey Hospital. Microbiology is based at Crawley Hospital. Phlebotomy has services at Crawley Hospital, East Surrey Hospital and Horsham Hospital.
All departments are fully accredited with Clinical Pathology Accreditation: CPA (UK) Ltd. The Blood Transfusion service is compliant with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005.
