• welcome to the surrey and sussex breast unit

Breast Unit

The Breast Unit is dedicated to providing an effective and comprehensive service for women who have been diagnosed with a breast problem, and provide support to them and their families.

The breast clinical nurse specialists are sometimes referred to as ‘key workers’ or ‘Macmillan nurses’. They provide help and support to anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or a breast problem.  They are a consistent link between doctors and their patients who progress through different specialist services.  The breast clinical nurse specialists also provide support services such as prosthesis fitting, lymphoedema assessments, breast pain management and family history support. The team is here to support you both during and after your treatment.

All patients who are diagnosed with a breast cancer will be seen and supported by the Macmillan breast nursing team. If you are a patient of Miss Waheed, you will usually be supported by Liz or Chris.  If you are a patient of Mr Suleiman or Miss Naseem, then you will most likely be supported by Sue or Jan.  However, the whole team can give you advice and support whenever you need it.

How to contact the breast clinical nurse specialists

You can contact the breast clinical nurse specialists for any concerns, advice or just to express how you might be feeling.  No concern  is too big or small and the support they offer is ongoing – it doesn’t stop when your treatment finishes.  If you would like to talk to them sometime since your treatment, they will be happy to hear from you.

The breast clinical nurse specialists are available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.  You can call or email the team. If your call is urgent, please ask the switchboard to bleep one of the breast clinical nurse specialists.

Appointments

If you have a question regarding your appointment, please contact the secretary for your consultant or specialist.

If you have questions about a diagnostic imaging appointment (X-ray, CT scan, mammography, etc.), please contact the Diagnostic Imaging department directly.
