Results from the national NHS Staff Survey have ranked Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in the top 20% of hospitals nationally as a place to work and receive treatment and also as somewhere patients receive quality treatment and care.
Staff satisfaction scores, along with staff engagement scores, have continued to increase each year, are in the top 20% across the country and above the national average.
Staff also rated highly that they felt their role makes a difference to patients and that they were part of a strong team providing high quality care to patients.
Michael Wilson CBE, chief executive, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust said: “I am delighted to see how positive staff feel about working at SASH and the strong link with this and the quality of care they know they are able to provide.
“Not only is this important for everyone at SASH it is, of course, especially important for our patients and the people we care for.
“Given the ongoing pressures we have experienced locally and in the NHS more generally, I am particularly encouraged that staff feel motivated and able to contribute to improvements in the way we provide care and our plans for the future.”
A total of 66%, an increase on last year, of staff from across the organisation completed the survey – compared with a national average of 42%, with their very positive responses putting Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in the top 20% nationally for 22 of 32 areas covered by the survey including:
- Staff engagement
- Staff motivation
- Staff recommending SASH as a place to work or receive treatment
- Effective team working
- Support from managers and good communication between senior managers and staff
- Quality training, learning and development
- Using feedback from patients effectively to improve the care provided
- Managers being interested in the health and well-being of staff
- Satisfaction with resourcing and support
- Staff confidence and security in reporting unsafe clinical practice
- Quality of appraisals
Michael Wilson added: “As well as showing us where we are getting it right the results also give us a valuable insight into areas where we need to focus.
