Like all NHS hospitals, we have been informed of a global supply issue that may affect cement products used in orthopaedic surgery. We are taking all possible steps to minimise disruption and want to reassure our patients that emergency and urgent trauma operations will continue as normal, and any existing stock already in our hospitals is unaffected.
We are working closely with Surrey Heartlands ICB, NHS England and procurement teams to understand the full picture and to make the best use of alternative suppliers wherever possible. Our clinical teams are carefully reviewing planned operations and will continue to prioritise patients based on clinical need over the coming weeks.
We know this news may be worrying for people who have already waited a long time for joint replacement surgery or other planned procedures, and apologise for any uncertainty this may cause. We will contact patients directly if there is any change to their planned care and will do everything we can to avoid or minimise delays.
Patients do not need to call the hospital. Anyone affected will be contacted personally by our booking team.
