The NHS Trust that runs East Surrey Hospital has been named as one of the top hospitals in the country at a national awards ceremony.
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust was listed in the CHKS Top Hospitals for 2019, a prestigious award based on an analysis of data from all hospital trusts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The winners are decided by an analysis of over 20 measures of safety and quality of care carried out by healthcare improvement specialists CHKS.
The measures cover safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care. They are refreshed each year to take into account any newly available performance information.
The award is the latest in a series of successes for the Trust, following the achievement of an ‘outstanding’ rating from hospital inspectors earlier this year and the news that staff themselves had ranked the organisation in the top 20% of hospitals in the annual NHS staff survey.
Michael Wilson CBE, chief executive of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “This award is only possible because of the dedication of over 4,000 people who work for our Trust. They continually strive for the best for our patients and I’m really pleased that their efforts have been recognised.”
The CHKS Top Hospitals programme awards were held in London on the 12 June and hosted by ITV News Medical Correspondent Sue Saville.
