A kind hearted Horley resident is hoping to bring a smile to the faces of patients spending Christmas in East Surrey Hospital with the launch of a festive gift appeal.
Claire Osborne wants to create hundreds of gift bags for elderly patients as well as older people living across East Surrey.
The mum of one, who works for the Department of Health, is asking people to donate a gift bag filled with small gifts which she and a team of volunteers will hand out to patients on the hospital wards just before Christmas.
Claire said: “The response to this appeal so far has been fantastic. Lots of gift bags have already been donated with some amazing cards made or signed by children addressed ‘to someone special’. With the community’s help we hope to be able to give out hundreds of gift bags to elderly people who may otherwise receive nothing.”
All items must be new and suggested presents include:
• Soap and shower gel
• Body and hand lotion
• Chocolates and sweets
• Slipper socks
• Puzzle Books
Fiona Allsop, the chief nurse at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said: “We do all we can to help as many people as possible spend Christmas at home but sometimes this isn’t possible. Our staff work hard to make this a happy time for our patients and I know a lovely gift will really brighten their day.”
