Trust RECOGNITION AWARDS WINNERS ANNOUNCED
On 1 December Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust held a Recognition Awards ceremony in their postgraduate centre to celebrate members of staff and teams who have ‘gone the extra mile’ to ensure patients receive a top class service. There were seven categories of awards and congratulations went to:
Chairman’s Award - Dr Matthew Mackenzie, Consultant Anaesthetist, for his work in establishing the medical simulation suite - an advanced training facility which demonstrates our commitment to providing the best trained staff and therefore care to our patients.
Unsung Hero - Irene Ritchie, medical secretary, for her commitment and devotion to duty - often in her own time - and unwavering support to colleagues.
Team of the Year – Brockham Ward incorporating the Gynae Assessment Unit and Early Pregnancy Unit for their work on improving the patient journey and patient experience, especially for those who suffering early pregnancy loss.
Employee of the Year – Wasifa Webb, Lead Pharmacist for Cancer Services, for her dedication and commitment to progressing the peer review for cancer chemotherapy services, often in her own time and whilst continuing her day job.
Volunteer of the Year – Joan Glasby (Outpatients, Crawley Hospital) and Denise Moseling (Gardener) for their tireless commitment to helping patients and supporting our staff.
Patient Involvement – Cathy Jenner, Ward Manager Buckland Ward, for her vision in helping to mould the department of urology into what it is today. Cathy has also been praised for offering truly patient-focused care by tailoring the care provided on Buckland to each individual’s needs.
Diversity Counts – Roger Mole with Post Room and Car Park Teams for their support over the last two years for the ‘Employment Works’ programme where they have welcomed East Surrey College students with learning disabilities into their teams.
Michael Wilson, Chief Executive of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust said, "Reading the nomination forms for the awards, what came across was the selfless nature of what each person has done. They have often undertaken extra work in their own time or put other people’s needs before their own. These are truly inspiring examples of what makes the NHS, and SASH, great institutions.”
At the ceremony the Trust also recognised those members of staff that have put in many years of service to SASH. 29 staff received awards for 20 years service; 12 staff received awards for 25 years service and seven staff received awards for 30 years and over service.
