Trust celebrates 5th annual Staff Health and Wellbeing Day

East Surrey Hospital was overwhelmed with staff who attended the 5th annual Staff Health and Wellbeing Day. The event was held on 18 January in the hospital’s Post Graduate Education Centre. Nearly 600 members of staff entered a free prize draw, which gives some indication of how popular the event was!

'Wellbeing' means different things to different people at different times, but generally speaking, it means the physical and mental health of an individual. The Wellbeing Day gives employees an opportunity to gain practical advice and experience on how to combat the stresses and strains of working life.

The day included taster sessions of the latest dance based exercise class Zumba, as well as Yoga and Pilates. Other activities included Punch - a cardio -vascular exercise using pads, gloves, and your fists!

The event was made possible with the support of a number of local services and organisations including:

Virgin Active

The Heart FM Angels

First Care

Surrey Police

East Surrey College

Curves Gym

Future Investment Training

Oakwood Gym

Breeze

CiC

RCN

Unison

Costco

ACAS

Loreen Underwood (who ran Zumba classes)

The Chillout Room Team

SASH Physiotherapists

SASH Library

SASH Occupational Health Team

Sunshine Nursery

These organisations provided the Trust with a variety of exciting stalls and activities.

Sally Knight, Head of Equality Diversity and Engagement was a key player in the co-ordination of the event. The Health and Wellbeing Steering Group and HR Team also put in a lot of commitment and hard work to pull this event together.

Yvonne Parker, Director of Human Resources said, "SASH is absolutely committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of its employees. As a healthcare provider, health and wellbeing applies as much to our employees as it does to the local population which we serve."

Ian MacKenzie, Director of Information and Facilities added, "SASH is doing as much as possible to enable our employees to be at their best, be energised, motivated and committed to their work. This will also help us ensure that we continue to provide safe, high quality healthcare which puts our community first."
