Trust NVQ AWARDS WINNERS ANNOUNCED
On 1 December
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust held a Recognition Awards ceremony in their postgraduate centre to celebrate members of staff and teams who have ‘gone the extra mile’ to ensure patients receive a top class service.
There were seven categories of awards and congratulations went to:
Ten Estates and Facilities staff have completed NVQ apprenticeship awards in cleaning and support services. Since 2009 38 members of our staff have taken part in the scheme. The course enabled our staff to develop their learning in principles of cleaning and health and safety, as well as enhancing their numerical ability and literacy skills.
The NVQs are assessed through a combination of exams, observations in the workplace and coursework. On average the course took 12 months to complete
Success in the NVQs has enhanced the participants’ confidence, self esteem and personal development.
- Develops skills ie. teamwork.
- The QCF training points (Quality Credit Framework) which are earned on the course are transferable and can work towards a degree.
- Staff become more proactive in the workforce; the confidence and skills that are developed through the course are reflected back in their work.
- Promotes staff engagement.
- An educated workforce promotes stability and is an asset to the organisation.

Hospital has celebrated its ninth anniversary with NVQ awards being presented to 81 candidates in the New Lecture Theatre, Education Centre.
Over the years the assessment teams from Training & Development and Nursing Education have provided a range of NVQs and Key Skills qualifications for hundreds of staff including boosting the qualifications of nurse cadets, porters and health care assistants.
Special congratulations go to the portering staff who were one of the first groups in
England to attain the Support Services in Healthcare NVQ qualification this year.
