Screening

Screening is used to investigate problems with the gut or the bowel which do not show up very well on ordinary X-ray pictures. Patients are given a radio-opaque contrast to swallow, or as an enema, which enables the X-ray pictures to stand out more clearly using an image intensifier. SASH has 2 image intensifiers, one at East Surrey Hospital and the other at Crawley.
