CT scans
CT scans - computed tomography scan
This is cross-sectional imaging used to detect conditions such as cancers, strokes, disorders of the bones and joints, and on trauma patients. There are two CT scanners at East Surrey Hospital, and one at Crawley Hospital. The scanners run from 9am to 5pm for appointments with a 24-hour service supporting the emergency department at East Surrey Hospital.
In partnership with the Trust's cardiac department, diagnostic imaging is introducing a new cardiac CT service from January 2012. This service will provide CT Cardiac coronary angiography, CT coronary artery calcium scoring and CT aortic angiography and reduce the need for SASH patients to travel to other centres, such as the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, for these specialised scans.
