We hope that you will be satisfied with the care you receive. We strive to meet individual needs and offer true woman-centred care.

It is our constant aim to improve the service we provide. Therefore, we rely on feedback from women and their families. Low risk birth unit

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your care, please speak to any midwife at the time, or ask to see one of the midwifery matrons / managers.

If your concerns remain unresolved the Head of Midwifery is happy to arrange to see you while you are in hospital or at home. Contact her secretary on 01737 768511 ext 6819 and arrangements will be made.

If you wish to make a formal complaint please contact the Trust Complaints Office on extension 6825. If you prefer to write to them, you can via the Trust address or by email to:

makingthingsright@sash.nhs.uk

All complaints are taken seriously and dealt with as quickly as possible, in complete confidence.

Of course, we also welcome positive feedback, so feel free to let us know if you want to comment on any particularly good aspects about your encounter with our service.

This can be done directly to the Head of Midwifery, addressed to:
The Maternity Unit, East Surrey Hospital, Canada Avenue, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 5RH.  Alternatively, you can email in to her secretary on

jill.edwards@sash.nhs.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.

Conduct

We aim to create a warm and friendly environment to promote a conducive atmosphere for mothers at one of the most special times in their life.

We understand that childbirth can be a time of great emotion. However, as with all departments within the Trust, aggressive or threatening behaviour - or behaviour that impedes the professional working of the unit will not be tolerated.

We suggest that if you experience any difficulties whilst in the maternity unit you speak to one of the midwifery sisters,  midwifery matrons/ managers or the Head of Midwifery.

Out of hours, you will be referred to the on-call Supervisor of Midwives. We always aim to sort out problems as quickly as possible.

All incidents will be dealt with fairly and sympathetically.

If anyone does behave in an unacceptable manner towards either a member of staff, a patient or a visitor, they will be asked to leave.

Maternity Services Liaison Comittee (MSLC)

The MSLC is a group that meets bi-monthly. Membership is a combined group of users of the service and key professionals from the maternity service and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs).

The aim is continually to review and improve services for women and their families in an open forum.

Anybody interested in joining this group should contact the maternity secretary on 01737 768511 ext 6819. A meeting can be arranged with a representative to discuss proposed membership of the group.

The MSLC has produced feedback forms for all women to take home after the birth of their baby so that they can anonymously tell us how the service was for them.

Alternatively they can add name and contact details if they wish to talk to someone.
