Alan is a Chartered civil engineer with over 30 years of public sector experience.
He was Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove City Council for over five years, achieving 4* "excellent" and "improving well" CPA status in his last year of tenure. He was in charge of 8,000 staff and a budget of £700m.
In addition to his chair posts within the healthcare sector, Alan is involved in other non-term executive roles, including NHBC Building Control Service, the Brighton Dome and Festival Board and a role as Chair of The Basement performing arts charity.
