The Trust Board

The Trust Board is made up of Executive and Non Executive Directors.

The Non-Executive Directors act as 'watchdogs' to ensure that the Executive Team are managing the Trust and its resources appropriately. They come from all walks of life and have a wide variety of experience in the voluntary, public and private sectors. They are part time and report to the Chairman of the Board.

Non-Executive Directors chair all top-level committees within the Trust and each take particular interests and responsibilities. The Non Executive team debate and contest all issues which come before the Board, they have the power to challenge decisions made by and the performance of the Executive team themselves.

The Board is responsible and accountable for everything that happens within the Trust. It operates within a strict remit and details are available in the Corporate Governance Manual. It is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Trust and for receiving reports and recommendations from managers throughout the organisation. It approves and sets service and policy changes and is responsible for managing Trust finances.

The Board meets regularly in public. The minutes and papers are available to the public.

The Board works very closely with partner organisations such as Primary Care Trusts, Strategic Health Authority, Social Services, Local Government and the Department of Health in developing policy and moving forward with the Modernisation Agenda and representing the interests of the organisation at the highest levels.
